First Admiral Ingsenieur Hj Ahmad Murad B Hj Omar hails from PONTIAN a small town in JOHOR in the southern part of peninsular Malaysia. He received his early education in Johor Bahru and later joined the Royal Military College (Boys Wing) at Sungei Besi, Kuala Lumpur. He joined the Royal Malaysian Navy as an Engineering Cadet on the December 1974

He then pursued a degree course in Mechanical Engineering at University Technology Malaysia (UTM) and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelors Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then qualified as a Professional (P Eng) in 1989 from the Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). Admiral Murad then pursued a part time off campus Masters of Science degree course in Engineering Business Management (EBM) with Warwick University UK and graduated in 2003.


Projects & Courses:

  1. Offshore Patrol Vessel Project (OPV) team in Malaysia Shipyard Engineering (1984-1987) – Head of Project Engineering Dept. Contract value RM 100 million.
  2. Job attachment under the auspices of the British Confederation Industry (CBI) at Yarrow Shipbuilders in Scotland for one year (1990). Trained in the field of shipbuilding (design and building).
  3. Naval Staff Course at HMAS PENGUIN in Sydney Australia (1994).
  4. Defense Research Management Institute postgraduate school Monterey California USA (1996).
  5. Malaysian Armed Forces Defense College (1999).
  6. Fast Troop Vessel (FTV) Project Team at Naval Dockyard (2000-2001) – Head of Engineering and Deputy Project Leader. Contract value RM 33 million.
  7. Modernization Program for KASTURI Class – Initiation and Project Blueprint. Project value RM 260 million. (2001-2004).
  8. Development of In Service Support Contract and Submarine Base Project Definition for RMN SCORPENE Class. Submarine Base Project value RM 400 million. (2003-2005).
  9. Head of Steering Committee for RMN Six Sigma Programme. (2005-2007).
  10. Head of Tenaga Nasional Berhad Land Rover Remanufacturing Project. Project value RM 1,180,000.00 (2008).
  11. Lead controller for Six Sigma Consultancy & Training for Indonesia (2009).


Professional Affiliation:

Admiral Murad is a FELLOW of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST) United Kingdom and currently as Chairman of the RINA & IMarEST Malaysian Joint Branch. Recently in Oct 2008 he was nominated and elected as Council Vice President.

He is also a FELLOW of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and had acquired his Professional Engineer (P Eng) qualification in 1989. In 2005 he was admitted as a member of SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) USA.

Currently holds the post of Chairman of Project Management Technical Division, committee member on the Training Board and Education & Training Standing Committee in the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).

Admiral Murad had been admitted as Academic Advisor and Industrial Advisor for UiTM (Mechanical Faculty), UniKL (MIMET) and University Technology Malaysia (UTM) respectively.


Career Development:

Admiral Murad after joining the RMN in 1974 was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1984 and to Commander 1996. After graduating from the Malaysian Armed Forces Defense College, he was promoted to Captain in 2001 and a year later as First Admiral. He had held many positions including onboard ships as well as bases including as Director General of Engineering at Navy Headquarters Ministry of Defense Kuala Lumpur and as Fleet Systems Commander in Navy Base Lumut prior to early retirement option.

After retirement, he was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Motor Teknologi & Industri Sdn Bhd in Feb 2009, an engineering company dealing in remanufacturing and precision machining of machine components/diesel engines and automotive engine and vehicle refurbishment based in Rawang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

Leaving MTI in Apr 2009, he is now Chairman of three companies namely, OMAHAMS Corporation Sdn Bhd, a trading company dealing with Jotun Marine paints and an engineering consultancy for detail engineering and project management, Genaxis Sdn Bhd a Six Sigma consultancy firm accredited by the American Society of Quality (ASQ) in cost reduction, process optimization and innovation and Preston Group of Companies involved in Shipbuilding, Ship repair and Oil & Gas business in Labuan Sabah.


Family:

He is married to wife NORMAH Bt BAKAR and has two children, Noreena (31yrs) and Ahmad Reza (28 yrs). Hobbies and sports include reading and golf.
